Tyler Herro Reveals His Mindset Ahead of Debut Bucks Season

This offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks turned the page on the Giannis Antetokounmpo era and traded the former Finals MVP away to the Miami Heat. One of the pieces the Bucks got back in the trade is former Heat guard Tyler Herro. 

Herro was drafted by the Heat in 2019 out of the University of Kentucky and had been with them for the first seven years of his career. During his tenure with Miami, he had his high moments, but he also had seasons where he was not available as much due to injury.

Tyler Herro was a part of the Heat teams that made it to the Finals in 2020 and 2023, so he is a player who knows what it's like to be on a top team in the NBA. Now he's joining a young Bucks roster that is expecting him to be one of, if not the focal piece, on offense.

Herro is now looking at this next phase of his career with Milwaukee as a new opportunity to showcase how good a player he truly believes he is. In a recent interview, he mentioned how confident he is in himself to have a good season, but also in the Bucks as a whole. 

"I probably have the biggest chip on my shoulder I've had in my career... obviously there's gonna be people who probably don't think we're going to win many games, but that's the opposite of what we're thinking," Herro said. 

How Can Tyler Herro and the Bucks Surprise the League?

Herro mentioned how he and the team have a chip on their shoulder going into this season because of the negative predictions people have made about this squad. The Bucks haven't been seen as a playoff-contending team since trading Giannis, but their roster offers some players who give them upside.

A lot of the Bucks' success in 2026 will depend on Tyler Herro and how far he can truly take this team. In past years, Tyler Herro has shown he can be the first option on a playoff team in the past. 

In 2024-2025, Herro led the Heat in scoring with 23.9 points per game, and they were the 8th seed in the playoffs that season as well. Though they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he showed he can be a leader on the offensive front. 

Now in 2026, he's looking to do the same, and he feels like he can get more help than most think. Kel'el Ware was another player brought over from Miami in the Giannis trade, and he's one of the more promising young forwards in the league.

He could have a breakout season, and Milwaukee may have some stability with him and Myles Turner as the two forwards. The Bucks also have two rookies in Brayden Burries and Nate Ament who could be productive right away. 

Overall, if Tyler Herro can have a healthy season and the Bucks' supporting cast can exceed expectations, they could be a team that can compete for one of the Play-In tournament spots in 2026-2027.
