Canadian Open rocked by upsets: Leylah Fernandez rolls as Alexander Zverev exits

The August hardcourt season is in full effect, leading to the year's final Grand Slam at the U.S. Open, as some of the top players are in Canada for the National Bank Open, more commonly known as the Canadian Open, before moving on to the Cincinnati Open.

The women's tournament is being held at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto, and IGA Stadium in Montreal hosts the men. Both tournaments are 1000-level Masters tennis events, meaning the singles winner earns 1,000 points on their respective rankings.

The women's side has already seen a massive upset as Canada's Leylah Fernandez downed French Open champion Mirra Andreeva with a 6-1, 6-4 dominant performance to earn her way into the Round of 16. Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova lost in the Round of 64, 7-6(5), 6-1 to American Caty McNally.

On the men's side, two players from the Netherlands have scored the biggest upsets so far as French Open champion and top-seeded Alexander Zverev was knocked out in the second round by Tallon Griekspoor 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4, while fourth seed Daniil Medvedev was beaten by Botic van de Zandschulp, 6-3, 7-6(5).
