Seahawks sign wonderfully named linebacker

The training camp roster churn continued on Friday, with the Seattle Seahawks making a change at linebacker.
The team announced the signing of 23-year-old linebacker Power Echols, while in a corresponding move, fellow LB Joseph Vaughn was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.

Echols, a stalwart on the North Carolina Tar Heels’ defense from 2021 through 2024, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as a UDFA, and spent training camp with the team before he was waived ahead of the regular season. He then joined the Houston Texans’ practice squad toward the end of the regular season, but didn’t receive a futures contract after Houston was eliminated from the postseason.
Across 52 games at UNC, Echols totaled 307 tackles, as well as 13 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions, and a trio of forced fumbles. Despite a strong college career, Echols’ size has worked against him, with his height in the fifth percentile and weight in the 44th percentile among NFL linebackers who have tested at the scouting combine.
Vaughn, like Echols, was an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft. He was signed to Seattle’s roster on Saturday, but is now back on the market after a short-lived stint with the Super Bowl champions.
Seahawks practice starts at 9:45 am PT, so Echols could be out there today.
