Stefon Diggs speaks for first time since landing with Commanders

The Washington Commanders and Stefon Diggs made it official on Wednesday. The two sides agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $12 million. The move was unanimously approved by media and fans alike.

Diggs gets what he wanted all along: to play for the Commanders, his hometown team. Washington gets what it needs: a proven top receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin and give quarterback Jayden Daniels another top weapon.

On paper, it's a perfect match for all sides.

Diggs will sign his contract and be on the field Friday when the Commanders return to practice. The four-time Pro Bowler was present for Maryland's fall camp practice on Wednesday. Diggs, a Maryland alum, has been working out with the Terrapins while awaiting his next move.

After the news broke of his signing, Diggs had a quick message for his new team:

"Go Commanders," Diggs said.

While those were his first public comments, he did speak to NFL insider Josina Anderson regarding his happiness of landing with the Commanders.

"I'm just super blessed to have this opportunity," Diggs told Anderson. "It's been a long time coming. I've remained faithful to the process. Alignment is real, and here I am back home. I'm humbled and thankful to be back where it all started."

The 32-year-old Diggs led the New England Patriots with 85 receptions, 1,015 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns last season. He was instrumental in leading New England to the Super Bowl and helped aid the development of second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Daniels becomes the latest star quarterback to throw passes to Diggs, following Josh Allen and Maye.
