Real Madrid lands Ivory Coast star Yan Diomande in $161M transfer

Real Madrid has completed a blockbuster deal to land Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
Per multiple reports, Madrid will pay a fee of €125 million ($144 million) plus €15 million ($17 million) in add-ons for the 19-year-old.

Diomande has signed a seven-year contract with Madrid, completing a stunning rise to the top of the European game.
The winger spent just one season with Leipzig, where he tallied 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 competitive matches.
“From day one, Yan impressed us with his fearless approach, his willingness to learn and the courage he showed on the pitch,” Leipzig’s managing director for sport Marcel Schafer said in a statement.
“In next to no time, his pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal saw him establish himself at the highest level."

Diomande went on to star for Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, appearing in all four of the Elephants' matches in North America.
Madrid is continuing to build ahead of the 2026-27 season, with Diomande joining a number of new faces including Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi.
Yan Diomande's American roots
Diomande was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, but moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, at 15 years old to join DME Academy’s soccer team.
The dynamic winger starred for the sports academy team between 2022 and 2024, also playing semi-professional soccer in the UPSL Premier Division for AS Frenzi. After catching the eye of international scouts, Diomande signed with then-La Liga side Leganés in 2024.
Diomande spent a half-season with Leganés before making the move to the Bundesliga with Leipzig last summer.
