The Lincoln City Imps are a fun club with a long history in the Football League. As recent as eight years ago they were playing non-league football in the fifth division on the English pyramid, but have steadily climbed the ladder more recently. They won the League One title last season to promote to the Championship for the first time since 1960 — a significant achievement for a club that has a ground that seats only 10k fans. I’ve got an online buddy who’s an Imps fan and he’s pretty excited about not only a season in the second division, but also about this loan. Apparently Lincoln City don’t really have many established strikers at the club and played a bunch of wingers and attacking midfielders up top last season, so there’s a decent chance Melia will get significant minutes there. Dropping an 18-year-old into the Championship in his first loan since playing in the League of Ireland is both a little harrowing and also represents how strongly Spurs think about his ability. Not sure how much noise Lincoln City will make in the Championship as a newly promoted side, but it’ll be fun to find out!
I think I might have my new Championship team to watch, alongside Middlesbrough. Good luck, Mason!
