Boy, 15, wanted for double murder in deadly Stoney Creek shootout

A 15-year-old boy is now wanted for the murders of two teenagers killed in a shootout last week in Stoney Creek – possibly while they were retaliating to a bear spray incident from hours earlier.

Hamilton Police say the deadly shooting occurred at a home on Candlewood Dr., near Whitedeer Rd. and Rymal Rd. E., shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and found two males suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead later in hospital.
The victims have since been identified as Abdulmalek Shibli, 18, and Afef Binafif, 16, both of Hamilton.
“At this time, police believe the shooting may have been retaliation for an earlier disturbance involving bear spray at a residence in Hamilton’s east end,” Homicide Det.-Sgt. Mike Ebert said at a news conference Wednesday.
Police responded to the bear spray incident near Barton St. and Centennial Pkwy. N. shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
And Ebert said it’s believed that disturbance was connected to the double homicide because “the earlier incident had at least one individual that was involved in both incidents.”
Following the bear spray incident, investigators believe at least six people arrived at the co-op housing complex at 191 Candlewood Dr. and “an exchange of gunfire” ensued involving “several” firearms.
“We believe the residence on Candlewood was a targeted residence,” Ebert said. “Somebody in that residence was targeted in relation to this disturbance, but not the victim.”
Police have said both murder victims – Shibli and Binafif– were members of the group that arrived at the residence.
No arrests have been made but investigators have now identified one suspect, a teenage boy, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Cops have also successfully obtained a court order allowing them to identify the wanted boy for five days or until he is taken into custody, whichever comes first.
Rahziel Martin, 15, of Hamilton, is wanted for two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder using a firearm.
Investigators are urging Martin to seek legal advice and turn himself in to police.
Police also warn anyone who knowingly assists the suspect in avoiding arrest may also be subject to criminal charges.
