Cameron Young Did Nothing But Throw Darts on Friday at the Rocket Classic

Coming off a silver medal at The Open, Cameron Young couldn’t have been too happy with an opening round 1-under 69 on Thursday with so many guys taking it low. But on Friday, it was his turn at the Rocket Classic.

Starting on Detroit Golf Club’s back nine, Young made birdie at 10, par at 11, then rattled off six straight birdies from Nos. 12-17 to make the turn in 7-under 28. Heading to his second nine, it looked like he had a shot at his second-career sub-60 round—his first came at the 2024 Travelers Championship.
But on his way back to the clubhouse, he didn’t get many putts to fall. Still, he managed to add a couple more circles to his card on Nos. 4 and 8, solidifying his bogey-free 9-under 61 that put him in a tie for first with Patrick Cantlay after Day 2’s morning wave.
As you could probably tell, it was an easy walk for the World No. 3 on Friday. But just how easy was it?
“It felt like I had a 10-footer for birdie on pretty much every hole,” he said after signing his card. Must be nice, Cam. I think I’ve had five or six of those looks all year long.
After reading that, I had to do some digging. Here are all the putts Young had when he hit the green in regulation during the second round.

Five putts inside 10 feet, nine inside 15 feet, and 11 inside 20 feet. Yeah, that’ll do.
As of 1:30 p.m. ET, Young ranked third in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, second in SG: Approach, eighth in SG: Around the Green, and seventh in SG: Putting for the second round. Again…that’ll do.
But his performance shouldn’t come as a shock. Not only has he been one of the best players on the PGA TOUR all year long, but he’s also played well at the Rocket in the past, finishing T-2 in 2022 and T-6 in 2024.
Now, after taking it deep Friday, he’ll have the chance to win his third event of the year.
