We rate Orlando Pirates’ NINE new signings

Orlando Pirates have made a statement ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, adding nine new faces to their squad to date as they look to defend their league title.

While some arrive with proven top-flight pedigree, others are exciting prospects whose ratings are based on potential as much as current ability.
The Buccaneers will get their campaign off to a start against newly-promoted Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, 1 August at 15:00.
Orlando Pirates’ new signings (rated out of 10):
Neo Rapoo – 8.5
One of the standout additions from Siwelele FC. Rapoo has already shown he can perform consistently at PSL level and should strengthen Orlando Pirates’ defence immediately, particularly with his energy and versatility.
Aphiwe Baliti – 7.5
A promising signing with plenty of upside. He has since returned to Siwelele FC on loan.
Matome Mmolai – 7
An investment for the future. Mmolai impressed at Leicesterford City FC enough to earn the move, but he’ll need to prove he can make the step up to competing for regular minutes.
Bohlale Ngwato – 8
A highly regarded youngster who has the attributes to develop into a key player. The 20-year-old’s arrival reflects Orlando Pirates’ continued focus on building for the future.
Sbangani Zulu – 7.5
A solid acquisition from Richards Bay who adds depth and competition. Whether he becomes a regular starter will depend on how quickly he settles.
Ghampani Lungu – 8
One of the more intriguing signings. Lungu has the quality to make an impact and could prove to be one of the bargains of the window if he adapts quickly.
Mthetheleli Mthiyane – 7
Another player with potential rather than a guaranteed starter. A good squad addition, but he’ll need to earn his place.
Sebastian Pedersen – 8.5
Perhaps the marquee signing of the group. The Norwegian brings a different profile to Orlando Pirates’ attack and, if he settles into South African football, has the tools to become a fan favourite.
Thapelo Mokobodi – 8
The Soweto giant’s most recent acquisition from Stellenbosch FC, the midfielder adds energy and composure in the middle of the park. He looks capable of challenging for a starting role and provides quality depth in a crucial area.
Overall transfer window rating: 8.5
Orlando Pirates have balanced youth, potential and immediate quality.
Rather than chasing headline-grabbing names, the club appears to have focused on strengthening multiple positions and planning for the future.
The success of the window will ultimately depend on how many of these players establish themselves as regular starters, but on paper it looks like one of the strongest recruitment drives in the PSL this off-season.
