Nine Employees Of Western Railway Felicitated With General Manager's Safety Award

Ramashray Pandey, General Manager, Western Railway, felicitated nine employees with the General Manager's "Man of the Month" Safety Awards for the months of May and June 2026 at the Western Railway Headquarters, Mumbai. These employees were recognised for their exemplary alertness, dedication and commitment to duty, which played a significant role in preventing potential untoward incidents and ensuring safe train operations. The awardees included two employees each from Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar Divisions and one employee each from Vadodara, Rajkot and Ratlam Divisions.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Shri Vineet Abhishek, one of the awardees from Mumbai Central Division, Shri Sujit Kumar, Train Manager, was honoured for his exceptional vigilance and prompt action after noticing smoke emanating from an AC coach in an express train during the course of duty. He immediately got the train stopped and, with the assistance of the Mechanic, ensured that the defective alternator V-belts were removed before the train resumed its journey. Shortly thereafter, he again noticed smoke emanating from the same coach, whereupon the train was stopped once again and the remaining defective V-belts were removed before allowing the train to proceed safely. His timely intervention prevented a potential mishap and ensured the safety of passengers and train operations.
Another noteworthy instance of alertness was displayed by Shri Jagesh M. K., Traffic Inspector, Mumbai Central Division, who acted swiftly during an incidence of technical failure at Churchgate. He immediately instructed the Control Tower to restore the next signal which was given to another train, enabling the train to be stopped before it entered a conflicting route. His prompt action ensured the safety of passengers and train operations.
Employees from other divisions were also felicitated for their exemplary presence of mind and swift response in identifying and addressing safety hazards. Their commendable actions included detecting explosive material near the railway boundary, detecting critical defects in wagons during train operations, noticing open wagon lids, identifying a leaning OHE mast and taking timely action to remove a fallen tree obstructing the railway track etc. Their prompt interventions significantly contributed to maintaining operational safety across the Western Railway network.
