Jailbirds complete series sweep with late offensive surge against Mudcats

JOPLIN, MO. — The Joplin Jailbirds rallied from a six-run first inning deficit to defeat the Chillicothe Mudcats 19-9 in seven innings in their last regular season game, completing a series sweep with a comeback victory.

Chillicothe jumped out to an early lead, scoring on an RBI single for the first run of the ball game before adding five more runs in the top of the first to take a 6-0 lead.

The Jailbirds responded back in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Landin Midgett, making things 6-1.

In the bottom of the second is where the Jailbirds got their groove on offense. Shadrach Salazar had a two RBI double, Blake Jones and Drew Vonder Harr each had a RBI single, making things 6-5 at the end of the inning.

Joplin surged in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs, also scoring one run in the bottom of the third, two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
