The pint-sized player swapped a lucrative paycheck at Tokyo club Suntory Sungoliath to take a significant cut to play on home soil, his coach John Dobson revealed.
CHESLIN KOLBE IS ALL SMILES IN CAPE TOWN
On his Instagram account, Cheslin Kolbe has been posting up a storm since his return to his city in Cape Town.
The 33-year-old has been enjoying quality time with his wife, Layla Kolbe and their three children, Kylah, Mila and Cayden.
“Home”, “021”, and “There’s no better feeling”, he captioned a few recent posts.
In May, Cheslin Kolbe shared his decision to return to South Africa – and take a significant pay cut – to be closer to his family.
He told the Cape Times: “Yes, the reason was to come back to play for the Stormers, where my rugby started. Hopefully, I can finish my career with the team as well. But the biggest part was for my wife and kids.
He continued: “Not being here with them, seeing them grow, was tough on us. Last year, I returned after six months of not seeing my children, and my boy almost didn’t recognise me. That made me realise it is time to come home and spend time with them.”
REUNITING WITH SIYA AND THE STORMERS
Cheslin Kolbe joins his close pal, Siya Kolisi, who has also returned to the Stormers to be closer to his children.
The Bok captain is co-parenting his two children, Nick and Keziah, with his ex-wife, Rachel Kolisi, who is based in Cape Town.
