Stephen Fulton overweight, Spence vs Tszyu loses another undercard bout

Stephen Fulton failed to make weight for his planned fight with Liam Wilson on the Spence vs Tszyu show, so now that show has lost a second featured undercard bout.

Fulton (23-2, 8 KO) was contracted to fight Wilson with a 133 lb limit, north of super featherweight but south of lightweight. But it could have been lightweight and he would have failed badly, as he weighed in at 139½.
If you’re looking to avoid quick math, that’s 6½ lbs overweight. It’s missing weight by a tremendous amount. At no point in the last 72 hours could Fulton really have believed he was going to make weight.
It’s the second straight fight where Fulton has missed weight, in fact. Last time, PBC and the WBC worked it so that Fulton and O’Shaquie Foster would fight for an interim lightweight title, with Foster having been scheduled to face Foster for his WBC super featherweight belt.
Fulton came in 2 lbs over the limit for that one, and this is obviously much worse. He was routed by Foster, and this time he won’t even go to the ring.
Feel bad for Wilson (18-3, 10 KO), who has wasted his time and loses an opportunity for a good win on a big show. As for Foster, everyone should reconsider the idea of booking him to fight at this point. People come back from worse offenses in boxing all the time, absolutely, but if a guy consistently misses weight, you’re taking a gamble on your show every time you schedule him.
The PPV had already lost Jermall Charlo, who was set to face Koen Mazoudier, and now has lost this fight, leaving the cupboard pretty bare this evening under the main event. But we’ll be here all the same starting from 9 pm ET, so join us all the same!
As for the main event, Spence and Tszyu both weighed in at 159 lbs, under the newly-agreed 160 lb limit. It was originally contracted for 158, but Spence asked to have the limit raised some days ago.
