Chiefs News: Mansoor Delane a player with something to prove in camp
· Yahoo Sports
The latest
Rookies for the Kansas City Chiefs will be reporting to the team’s training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph later today. When we are able to see the full squad next week, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane will be among the players under the most scrutiny. Because of the price the Chiefs paid to move up three slots to sixth overall for Delane, there will be little patience for talk of a rookie curve.

When assessing his camp, we will need to remember that cornerback mistakes are often magnified, and the position is rarely noticed when a player is performing well. That said, Delane needs to establish himself as one of the best in the league at his position quickly.

Mansoor Delane
There are two truths when it comes to rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane:
1. Because the team traded up to select him with the No. 6 pick, he needs to be an immediate starter.
2. He didn’t get off to a smooth start in spring practices, sitting out mandatory minicamp with a shoulder injury.
The second note might seem minor, but it could quickly turn into a big deal if Delane shows any ill effects when he arrives this week.

Kansas City Chiefs: S Xavier Nwankpa
In his pre-draft scouting report for Iowa safety Xavier Nwankpa, Bleacher Report’s Daniel Harms graded the 6’3″ 208-pounder as a fourth-round pick while touting his physicality against the run.
“Nwankpa is routinely in the right place,” Harms said. “As such, he can wear a multitude of hats for a defense. He excels as a box safety, reading out plays and triggering downhill to make big hits…”
As training camp opens, Chiefs point to brighter future in 2026 | ESPN
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Even a month ago, when the Kansas City Chiefs finished their mandatory minicamp, pass rusher Chris Jones acknowledged a reality that to him felt odd.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had this long of a break with football,” Jones said, referencing the Chiefs missing the playoffs last season for the first time since 2014.
Jones and the rest of the Chiefs have spent the past several weeks on another extended break, too, a hiatus that will be 42 days before training camp begins next week. When Jones rejoins his teammates on the practice fields on Missouri Western State’s campus, he and some of the Chiefs’ most prominent veterans have vowed to keep last season in their minds.

Will Patrick Mahomes look like his normal self?
Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL late last season, but the stories about his recovery this offseason have all been positive. The team is hopeful Mahomes is cleared for training camp in the upcoming days, according to SI.com’s Albert Breer. But, like Daniel Jones, there’s a difference between being on the field and looking completely healthy.
The Chiefs had a rough 2025 season and the only way they bounce back is if Mahomes is back to an MVP level.
Jon Gruden and Ronde Barber will call Buccaneers-Chiefs preseason game | Pro Football Talk
The Buccaneers announced that Gruden and Barber will be on the call for their August 22 home game against the Chiefs.
Gruden has said he wants to be a play-by-play announcer, and now he will be, at least for one preseason game, for the franchise he coached to a Super Bowl XXXVII victory after the 2002 season. Barber was a Hall of Fame player on that team.

“So it’s about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it’s one day at a time.”
The lack of a timetable for Hill to sign with a team falls in line with what his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said last month. The goal is to get the speedster back into shape before he considers a landing spot.
Ravens waive rookie Diego Pavia to make room for Ethan Pocic | ESPN
After throwing 29 touchdown passes and rushing for 10 more, Pavia was named first-team All-American and SEC Offensive Player of the Year and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the best upperclassman quarterback in college football.
Throughout the predraft process, there were questions about Pavia’s age (24), lack of height (5-foot-10) and decision-making off the field. After finishing runner-up to Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza in December, Pavia posted a photo on Instagram with the caption “F- ALL THE VOTERS” along with a thumbs-down emoji on social media. He later apologized.
Sources: Panthers lose Nic Scourton to torn ACL on 1st day of camp | ESPN
It’s a huge blow for the Panthers, who were counting on Scourton to be a top pass rusher opposite free agent addition Jaelan Phillips.
Scourton went down on a wet field late in practice Thursday during team drills and players immediately gathered around him on one knee.
He held his hand over his face as he was led into an awaiting cart. As he was leaving the field, the cart stopped and Canales and every player on the roster individually walked over to hug Scourton before he was taken to the training room.

Can the Chiefs afford a ‘diet version’ of Patrick Mahomes in 2026?
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s “Get Up” crew previewed the 2026 NFL season with a question about the Kansas City Chiefs: how good are the Chiefs if quarterback Patrick Mahomes can’t be 100% healthy this season?
The question was first answered by former NFL wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, who doubted the team has enough “on the outside” to succeed like the organization has in past years of the Mahomes era, before pointing out that the quarterback may need to tweak his game to make it work.
