If they are, Kevin Gausman is going to get a lot of interest.

But if that happens, there are some teams who can't acquire Gausman. He doesn't have a full no-trade clause, but instead an eight-team no-trade list.

Essentially, those are eight teams listed in his contract that Gausman has the right to refuse a trade to.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported the eight teams on the list in a post on X on Wednesday:

  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • Detroit Tigers
  • New York Mets
  • Athletics
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Seattle Mariners

It's a fascinating list because it doesn't have a single thread through all those teams.

A few are those who have struggled in recent years.

A few are geographically far away from Toronto.

And a few are teams that one might expect a player to want to be traded to, but apparently Gausman wouldn't be interested.

If one of those teams made an offer to Toronto that the Blue Jays liked, they could still go to Gausman and see if he'd waive his no-trade list.

More likely, though, if Gausman gets traded, it'll be to one of the other 21 non-Toronto teams that he can be dealt to without needing any kind of approval process from the right-handed pitcher.
