According to a report from Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha:

🚨⚪️ Nico Schlotterbeck (26/🇩🇪) and Felix Nmecha (25/🇩🇪) are both on Real Madrid’s shortlist. José Mourinho is a big admirer of the #BVB duo and has already gathered information on both players.
Mourinho is keen to sign a left-footed centre-back, with Schlotterbeck and Riccardo Calafiori among the names being monitored. Schlotterbeck could leave for €50-60m due to a World Cup release clause. Mou likes the player.
Real Madrid are also planning to strengthen their midfield and attack this summer.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid defender and German national team player Antonio Rüdiger has given Nico Schlotterbeck a glowing endorsement amid reported interest from Real Madrid. Schlotterbeck’s release clause is rumored to have had a deadline, which has passed, so if Real Madrid was inclined to really pursue the defender, it would require a full pursuit process.
“Good players are always welcome. But I do not want to say much more about it. I would be happy,” Rüdiger said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg).
The Real Madrid defender then highlighted exactly why Schlotterbeck is attracting attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“Nico has always been a threat, especially from set pieces. He is aggressive, he is always there in duels and his build-up play is outstanding. His left foot is gold,” Rüdiger stated.
That final assessment may be the most important one. Schlotterbeck offers a rare combination of physicality, aggression, defensive ability, and quality in possession. His ability to play out from the back with his left foot makes him particularly valuable in a modern defensive system.
Rüdiger knows exactly what it takes to play at the highest level, and his praise for Schlotterbeck speaks volumes about the Borussia Dortmund defender’s qualities. Whether Real Madrid ultimately makes a move remains to be seen, but the idea of Schlotterbeck joining Rüdiger in the Spanish capital would certainly be an intriguing one.
