Blatter: FIFA needs new leadership and 'right' team won World Cup

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has reiterated his call for successor Gianni Infantino to be replaced and says the "right" World Cup champions were crowned.
Spain won Sunday's final against an Argentina side widely criticized for their aggression and lack of an attempt on goal.

The record 104-match and 48-team tournament was dominated by the controversy over US striker Folarin Balogun having a red card suspension lifted. US President Donald Trump confirmed he asked Infantino to let him play but the FIFA boss says the decision was reached independently.
Blatter, who was FIFA president from 1998 to 2015 in an era beset by corruption allegations, wrote on X on Tuesday: "The longest World Cup has come to an end - with the right champions. But on the way to the final whistle, the tournament had lost its credibility.
"Politics must not be allowed to overshadow the game. Now it is up to the fans, players and national associations to reclaim football and bring it back to its roots under new leadership."
Infantino took over from fellow Swiss functionary Blatter and is popular with many federations for expanding the men's World Cup, which could go to 64 teams in 2030.
He is set to stand next year for a fourth term as FIFA president, but some European federations such as Germany have not yet given their backing.
