Prime suspect in brutal murder of Punjabi pop star hiding in Canada?

There were suspicions and problems with the Calgary contractor courting Punjabi pop star Yashinder Kaur.
For starters, the 29-year-old Indian woman discovered that her long-distance lover of five years had a wife and children in Canada. At one point, family members told CBC News there had been embryonic marriage plans between Kaur and 37-year-old Sukhwinder Singh Brar.
“She trusted him blindly, and she loved him dearly. He loved her, too,” Daljeet Kaur, the singer’s mother, told the network.
According to cops in India, Yashinder Kaur vanished on May 13. Six days later, her car was pulled out of a canal near Ludhiana, in India’s Punjab state, where divers recovered her body.
She had been shot in the head and chest.
The background on their romance
Homicide detectives began zeroing in on Brar, his associates and family. Kaur’s family, witnesses, and travel documents led them to Brar, who had reportedly lived in Canada for many years.
The couple met through mutual friends and he frequently visited her in India. They celebrated his 37th birthday in January along with her kin in India and at the time, he announced his intention to marry her.
“He was like a brother to me,” Jotinder Singh, Inder Kaur’s brother, told CBC.
But sometime in the spring, it was discovered the roving Romeo was married with kids stashed back in Calgary. Kaur had called her betrothed in Canada and his wife answered.
On the night she vanished, Kaur told her brother she would return shortly. She was never seen alive again. Investigators believe the suspect fled via Nepal hours after the murder.
So far, cops have arrested three alleged accomplices — including the suspected killer’s father — for abduction and illegal use of firearms which were registered to Brar. The victim’s family is demanding Canada become involved.
What will Canada do?
However, Canada has become a safe haven for global criminals and extradition proceedings face a slew of roadblocks. At the moment, it isn’t clear whether Singh Brar is hiding in Canada.
Both Calgary cops and the RCMP told CBC they were currently uninvolved in the file.
Her cousin wonders why Canada won’t act.
“We appeal to the Canadian government: We have all the necessary evidence and proof, he should be immediately deported from Canada,” the cousin said.
Cops in India say the probe is not complete and they have not charged their primary suspect. Authorities have 90 days from the date of the murder to charge suspects, including the three already in jail.
Following charges, India would likely request that Canada extradite the suspected killer
“My child, come back to me,” her heartbroken mother said, as per CBC. “Nothing looks right to me, nothing feels good anymore. I remain completely devastated. My daughter wants justice.”
