While Liverpool have found themselves to be quite busy in the summer transfer window, having had to replace several of their key departures earlier on in the season, they have yet to fully fill the boots left by one player: Mo Salah. The Egyptian forward brought his time at Anfield to an end at the conclusion of last season, wrapping up a nine-season stay in Merseyside.
Salah was the key gear in the Reds' offensive system throughout his time with the club, recording 377 goal involvements across his 440 appearances, which makes the task of filling that role rather tough to do.
But the Liverpool executives have been doing their best, having outbid Newcastle United for Victor Munoz, paying 40 million for the Spanish winger, but he has yet to really show his stripes at a top level, only recording eight goal involvements last season for Osasuna in La Liga.
The Reds are in the race for Barcola
It appears that the Merseyside club aren't done adding depth to their forward department, as in recent days, they've heavily been linked to Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola. According to TEAMtalk's Ciaran McCarthy, Liverpool has put in a bid worth £85 million for the French forward.
While the £85 million price tag might sound rather extreme, given the pedigree that Barcola would bring, having gone into the offseason off of his second straight Champions League triumph, bagging 13 goals across his 48 appearances, he's more than worth it.
The Parisian winger wouldn't just apply his craft for the French club, as he'd receive a call-up to Les Bleus for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that the 23-year-old would shine in, netting four goal involvements en route to a fourth-place finish.
The Reds' interest in Barcola appears to be a clear shift in intentions in the transfer window, given that they were heavily linked to Ivorian wonderkid, Yan Diomande, prior to the start of the aforementioned World Cup, with the 19-year-old originally being seen as the replacement for Salah.
But it's been reported that the Ivorian is on his way to the Parc De Princes, perhaps as a replacement for Barcola. For now, only time will tell, but Barcola's future is something to keep an eye on in the weeks to come.
