Senior RHP explains his decision to return to Texas A&M in 2027

· Yahoo Sports

Despite losing to USC in the College Station Regional, Texas A&M's 2026 season wasn't a bust by any means, as second-year coach Michael Earley deserves credit for keeping the 2025 roster intact, including the Aggies' top three hitters, Caden Sorrell, Gavin Grahovac, and Maryland transfer Chris Hacopian, who were three of eight Texas A&M players selected in the 2026 MLB Draft last weekend.

While nearly every one of the eight players selected was expected to depart after the 2026 season, junior reliever and RHP Clayton Freshcorn, who, during most of the season, looked like the most talented arm on the roster, was selected in the 19th round by the St. Louis Cardinals, but opted to return to College Station for a final season, and will likely compete for a starting role.

Paired with incoming junior LHP Aiden Sims, who was second on the team in ERA, serving as the team's ace before his season-ending injury just weeks before the NCAA Tournament, Texas A&M's 2027 pitching rotation looks vastly improved thanks to six pitchers from the transfer portal, who fill out the rest of the bullpen under new pitching coach Barry Enright.

Clayton Freshcorn's 2.82 ERA and 56 strikeouts over 54.1 innings last season provide Barry Enright plenty to work with next season, and while forgoing the MLB for another year of college baseball was certainly a difficult decision, betting on himself will more than likely pay off and result in being selected several rounds higher in the 2027 MLB Draft.

On Wednesday, Freshcorn sat down with TexAgs analyst Ryan Brauninger to discuss his choice to return for a final season, which you can watch here.
