Atlanta Braves draft LSU baseball signee in third round

· Yahoo Sports

LSU baseball signee Jensen Hirschkorn was selected by the Atlanta Braves at No. 84 overall in the third round during the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday. The assigned slot value of his selection is $973,000.

The No. 56 player in MLB's prospect rankings for the draft class, Hirschkorn attended Kingsburg High School in Kingsburg, CA. The right-handed pitcher boasts a mix of a fastball that touches 97 mph, along with a slider and a change-up. His six-foot-seven frame landed him high on scouts' watch lists.

Hirschkorn was the second player from LSU's 2026 class to hear his name called on Saturday. He follows Logan Schmidt, a left-handed pitcher who also hails from California. They might not be the only LSU signees to come off the board by the end of Saturday's fourth round.

Head coach Jay Johnson expects to lose multiple signees to the MLB. It comes with the territory of having multiple commits ranked as high prospects. Teams typically use top-100 picks on players they expect to turn pro, so it's likely that Hirschkorn will never don the purple and gold.
