Notre Dame lands its 2027 linebacker, as Illinois 4-star commits

Notre Dame football hasn’t had the best recruiting luck with linebackers in the 2027 class, but that all changed on Saturday afternoon.

Illinois’ Roman Igwebuike committed to the Irish over Clemson, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee, finally adding to the room. Notre Dame had two previous verbals, but both of them decided to flip elsewhere and 5-star Kaden Henderson flirted with committing but ultimately opted for Texas A&M.

The Irish won’t be complaining about winning this recruiting battle, as Igwebuike is ranked as the No. 123 overall prospect and No. 9 linebacker in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. The good news is the Notre Dame won’t be shut out at the position, as it will add one of the nation’s best.

Igwebuike becomes commitment No. 22 in a class that is viewed as one of the top collections of talent in college football.
