Rail Wheel Factory celebrates 70th Railway Week

The 70th Railway Week was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Rail Wheel Factory (RWF), Bengaluru, on 08 July 2026. The occasion was marked by recognition of the outstanding achievements of the organization during the previous year and by honouring employees for their exemplary service and dedication.

Manoranjan Pradhan, General Manager, Rail Wheel Factory, was the Chief Guest. On the occasion, he presented Vishisht Rail Seva and Rail Seva Certificates to employees in recognition of their outstanding contributions across various departments.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan complimented Team RWF for their dedication and unwavering commitment, which enabled the factory to achieve several historic milestones during 2025–26. He reiterated that RWF continues to play a vital role in supporting Indian Railways by ensuring the timely supply of quality wheels, axles, and wheelsets for freight and passenger rolling stock.
Highlighting the factory's achievements, the General Manager stated that RWF registered its highest-ever production during 2025–26, producing 2,10,026 wheels, 1,22,000 axles, and 1,20,100 wheelsets, recording growth of 4%, 30%, and 22%, respectively, over the previous year. The factory also achieved record dispatches of 1,16,561 wheelsets and 40,869 loose axles, the highest in its history.
He further informed that, with the support of Zonal Railways, RWF procured a record 1.01 lakh MT of WTA scrap, generated ₹36.19 crore through scrap sales, maintained 99.90% material availability, and recorded an annual turnover of ₹3,005.39 crores.
Emphasizing the factory's commitment to modernization, Pradhan highlighted the commissioning of the Automatic Ultrasonic Radial Scanning Machine, the in-house Primary Sand Screening System, and the Third Axle Machining Line, which will augment annual axle production capacity by 42,500 axles. He also mentioned the commissioning of a 150 kVAR Capacitor Panel and four 15 MVA transformers, along with the successful in-house modernization of the Forge Shop control systems, including the Heat Treatment Line PLC, completed at a cost of ₹15 lakh against an estimated ₹47 lakh, resulting in substantial savings and improved operational reliability.
Speaking on sustainability, the General Manager noted that RWF continued its focus on energy conservation, water management, and environmentally responsible manufacturing through initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, eco-friendly coir-based wheelset packaging, development of non-asbestos gaskets, and implementation of a zero in-house landfill waste management system. In recognition of these efforts, RWF retained the GreenCo Gold Rating for 2025 and was also honoured with the prestigious GreenCo Champion Award by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
The celebrations concluded with a colourful cultural programme presented by the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rail Wheel Factory, adding a festive touch to the occasion.
