First the Nets and now another professional team will be an ex-Garden State team and playing in the Big Apple.
Gothan FC, a women's professional soccer club, announced Tuesday that it will move to new home. After seven years of playing at Sports Illustrated Stadium (formerly Red Bulls Arena) in Harrison, the NWSL team will join pro men's team New York City FC, at the under-construction Etihad Park in Willets Point, Queens. Gotham is expected to begin play at the soccer-specific stadium in 2028.

Currently, Gotham is seventh in the NWSL with a 6-3-3 record. The club will get a taste of its future home when the team hosts the Washington Spirit at Citi Field, home of the MLB Mets and next door to the soccer site, July 15. The game will be called “The Queens Classic."
This isn't the first time a professional team left New Jersey. Most recently the New Jersey Nets rebranded as the Brooklyn Nets in 2012.
