Nets officially announce signing of G Keon Ellis in NBA free-agency
· Yahoo Sports
The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a disappointing 20-62 record in the 2025-26 NBA campaign that ultimately rewarded them with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn took a huge step in improving the roster for the rebuild by selecting Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. with the No. 6 pick, but they also added a veteran player that should factor into the rotation next season.
The Nets announced on Monday that they have officially signed guard Keon Ellis in free-agency, meaning that he joins center Day'Ron Sharpe and forward Josh Minott as free-agent signings. Brooklyn did not explain what the financial details are for Ellis' deal, but ESPN's Shams Charania noted that the contract is for two years and $18 million, including a full mutual option.

Ellis, 26, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 6.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 44.0% from the field and 36.3% from behind the three-point line in 72 games played. Ellis split last season between the Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings after Sacramento traded him and Dennis Schroder to Cleveland around the February deadline.
Ellis has the reputation of being a perimeter player that can defend the opposing team's best perimeter threat and while being able to spread the floor with his long-range shooting. It also helps that Ellis spent the 2022-23 and 2023-24 season with Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez as one of the assistant coaches on the Sacramento staff and now, the two can work together again with the hopes of turning Brooklyn around for the better.
As the roster for next season continues to take form, Ellis appears to be set for a role coming off the bench given that Egor Demin is likely going to be starting at one of the guard spots with Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle manning the forward spots. However, even if Ellis is coming off the bench for the Nets, he will still be able to have an impact coming off the bench, something that Brooklyn is hoping for as well.
