He finished the championship game with 20 points on 61-14/2-5 and 6-7 from the line, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Coach Scott Fitch said this about his young star: “I think he’s exceeded expectations. When he came in, I had watched a lot of film on him at Barcelona and saw that he played the four though he played on the perimeter a lot. And to me if he can play inside and outside he becomes a special player. And I feel like he’s embraced that, so for me the fact that he’s been coachable and wanted to learn and then applied it to me he’s exceeded expectations.”
Boumtje Boumtje went into this tournament highly regarded, but he comes out out of it with a lot of eyes opened. This was his only poor-shooting game in Istanbul, and one suspects that the Serbs, having seen what he did to the other teams, made him a focus of their defense.
Now, it’s off to Durham to measure himself against Maxime Meyer, Drew Scharnowski, Cameron Williams, and Patrick Ngongba. July and August are going to be extremely interesting around Cameron.
