Albeit very much expected, Julian Nagelsmann made the decision to resign from his role as German national team manager after meeting with the DFB executives following the World Cup exit at the hands of a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in Foxborough. Even though they made it out of the group stages unlike 2022 in Qatar an 2018 in Russia, getting to the quarterfinals was the expectation for Germany from the DFB, and Nagelsmann failed to achieve that for what was still widely viewed as an underperforming Die Mannschaft side — a far cry from the squad that got a nation believing again with their Euro 2024 performances on home soil.

For Nagelsmann’s sake, it was a decent gesture that the DFB had advised him to resign himself as opposed to being given the boot to save face after Nagelsmann himself had initially said he still planned on fulfilling the rest of his contract with the DFB. For the former Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Hoffenheim manager, it was sort of a lose-lose situation, but he was able to decide to resign himself and give a proper farewell message to the Germany fans after the announcement became official.

Now, Jürgen Klopp is the frontrunner to replace Nagelsmann, and getting a deal sorted for Red Bull’s head of football has already been put into motion. Klopp’s admitted himself that he’s ready to step in and there’s a release clause in his Red Bull contract specifically for the opportunity of the Germany job — this is the time for Klopp to take the national team job.

Per information from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s top officials are very much in favor of Klopp taking over as Germany manager. They share the sentiment that most of the country feels in that now, more than ever, the national team needs Klopp as manager to right the ship and steer things in the right direction after too many disappointments in international tournaments ever since the 2014 triumph in Brazil.

Klopp was once a staunch rival of Bayern’s in his Borussia Dortmund days and had his fare share of squabbles with Bayern’s leadership members, but a lot of that is strictly in the past. His name has been mentioned more than once to potentially become Bayern manager at different times, though nothing had ever become concrete beyond phases of just rumors.

For what it’s worth, Bayern’s top brass has absolutely zero doubt that Klopp is the right man for the Germany job right now, and it will only benefit the German Rekordmeister to have him at the helm. Bayern is routinely the most represented club in the national team, so with Klopp’s leadership, it will only help solidify how those players mesh with the rest of the players in the squad, especially for such a prominent figure that everyone in the Bundesliga and abroad respects and appreciates so much.
