Liverpool have been tipped to shake up their midfield options this summer.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones have been linked with moves away following poor seasons under Arne Slot.
Slot’s successor - Andoni Iraola - will give everyone a blank slate in preseason. But it would be a surprise to see the same options lining up for the Reds next term.
Young Liverpool midfielders require loans
The outgoing Premier League champions have been associated with moves for Adam Wharton and Alex Scott - and their arrivals would certainly have an impact for players already on the books.
For example it would be much harder for young players to make the breakthrough - with Trey Nyoni, Stefan Bajcetic and James McConnell requiring first-team football for their development.
If Iraola can’t give it to them at Anfield then it’s likely that we see them head out on loan.
Nyoni wanted by Swansea
Nyoni in particular is a special case. Signed from Leicester back in 2023 he made his first-team debut aged only 16 under Jurgen Klopp. But the England youngster suffered setbacks under Arne Slot - and didn’t get as many outings as he might have wished.
Now the Liverpool Echo is suggesting that the central midfielder is a target for former Liverpool coach Vitor Matos - who is now in charge at Swansea City.

Nyoni to be reunited with Vitor Matos
“Trey Nyoni, the 18-year-old [sic] midfielder who made 14 senior appearances this term, has previously been wanted by Championship side Swansea City for a temporary move,” the report reads.
Nyoni, 19, signed a professional deal in summer 2025 and was expected to kick on. But he played only a grand total of 20 minutes or so across the Premier League season - often going long spells without any kind of significant football.
A Championship loan move would certainly benefit Nyoni - who is far too good for youth and academy-level football at this stage of his career.
