The indirect talks between the United States and Iran resulted in “positive progress,” Qatari officials said as the discussions wrapped up on Thursday.
The talks, conducted through mediators from Qatar and Pakistan, made progress on issues related to the memorandum of understanding, which was agreed upon by both countries weeks ago. It’s understood that both Washington and Tehran agreed to continue to hold discussions.
The update came as Iran prepares for a multi-day funeral procession for slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed by airstrikes on the first day of the Iran war on Feb. 28. A military official has warned Israel and the U.S. that any attacks during the funeral will be met with “harsh and regret-inducing responses.”

An Iranian military official has warned the U.S. and Israel that any attacks during the funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be met with “harsh and regret-inducing responses,” according to state media.
The commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters in Tehran, Maj. Gen. Ali Abdollahi said the U.S. and Iran should avoid “miscalculation” during the funeral, which is set to take place on Saturday, per CNN.

The funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei will take place July 4-9 across Iran and Iraq. He was killed by an airstrike on the first day of the Iran war on Feb. 28.

Iran’s military warned that all commercial vessels must take the Iranian-designated maritime route for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz or face consequences.
“Any U.S. interference in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with a decisive and swift response from the armed forces,” the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement, per Al Jazeera.
“The Strait of Hormuz is not the playground of the aggressor America, but rather the territory of the undisputed sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Fars News Agency shared the statement, noting: “The security and maintenance of the stability of this vital waterway are the red line of the powerful armed
