In a corresponding move, the Dodgers called up right-hander Paul Gervase.

The Dodgers called Barnes up prior to Wednesday’s game, replacing right-hander Wyatt Mills on the roster after he played the day prior. Barnes came into the game in the second inning, pitching the remainder of the game for the Dodgers.

He threw seven innings, allowing all seven runs and 12 hits to the Athletics as the Dodgers lost, 7-1. Despite a disappointing result, Barnes was still happy for the opportunity and managed to get the bullpen some much needed rest as they head into a four-game series against the San Diego Padres.

“It was great to come in and give them length. That was something they needed with today being a bullpen day,” Barnes said. “Obviously the results weren’t what I wanted. I don’t think they were what the team wanted. But I was happy to provide some length.”

Barnes has appeared in three games for the Dodgers this season, and didn’t allow a run across two innings in his two appearances before his outing Wednesday.

Has Paul Gervase Pitched for the Dodgers This Season?

Gervase has pitched twice in a Dodgers uniform this season, with his last appearance coming towards the end of May. He has handled multiple innings in both of his outings this season, allowing just one earned run through five innings pitched.

Since returning to the minor leagues, Gervase has put together a stellar run of games together in the minor leagues. He has appeared nine times, pitching 11 total innings, and only allowed a run in one of his outings. He has a 1.64 ERA since the Dodgers sent him down.

On the season, Gervase has a 3.60 ERA in the minors through 25 innings pitched, and has struck out 35 batters.

The Dodgers’ bullpen—outside of Jack Dreyer, who opened Wednesday’s game—is rested for the first game of the series, and they’ll hope that edge can help propel them over the Padres for the fifth time in seven games this season.
