Rory McIlroy watches Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon in Masters green jacket

In the sports world, game recognizes game.

So it should come as no surprise that six-time major champion golfer Rory McIlroy might show up at Wimbledon to watch four-time Grand Slam champ Jannik Sinner compete.

But perhaps the surprising part was McIlroy's decision on Wednesday to buck Wimbledon's all-white tradition by wearing his Masters green jacket as he took his seat alongside wife Erica.

The native of Northern Ireland certainly stood out among the patrons assembled in the Royal Box for defending champion Sinner's June 1 Centre Court match against Portugal's Nuno Borges.

Sinner looked every bit the top seed in this year's tournament, dispatching Borges in straight sets.

McIlroy, 37, moved his residency from Florida to London last year so his daughter Poppy could go to school there.

With the Scottish Open beginning next week and the British Open the week after, McIlroy wasn't the only golfer to take a little detour to watch some tennis.

European Ryder Cup team members Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose, along with captain Luke Donald and vice captains Thomas Bjorn and Eduardo Molinari were also in attendance.

But, of course, only one of them was wearing a green jacket.
