It is a busy time for the Carolina Hurricanes and the rest of the league. First of all, there was the draft this weekend which saw your Hurricanes turn four picks into seven. After making six selections, they turned their final pick into the rights to John Carlson.

All is quiet on that front so far, by the way.

Visit grenadier.co.za for more information.

The Canes are poking into many options regarding a trade to upgrade any position.

Supposedly, they are shopping Dylan Larkin, Zach Werenski, and Connor Hellebuyck. (among others). And who would be surprised if they ended up making a trade for someone totally off the map?

With free agency open at noon on Wednesday and a lot to follow leading up to that, we also have Prospect Development Camp ongoing this week.

Allow me to start off with a review of our draft picks.

Carolina’s first choice, defenseman William Hakansson, has size and can skate.

Next up was Wiggo Sorensen who could not attend camp this week. He has a lot of development to go, but the Canes were impressed. He is a centerman who has been called an agitator.

Zachary Lansard is described as being tenacious.

“Mikey” Berchild is a smallish forward who is a heart and soul type player. Could he be Martinook’s replacement someday?

Finally they chose two goalies, Ryder Fetterolf and and Zachary Jovanovski. Fetterolf was named goaltender of the year in the OHL. He posted a .923 save percentage in 41 games. Jovanovski was a workhorse for Guelph starting 52 games.

For more information, Walt Ruff has a more detailed write up.

Several players were given qualifying offers today and some were not including Skyler Brind’Amour. Although if they were not offered today, they could still be signed.

The Canes have a nice sheet detailing this.

Nick, from Canes Prospects, does a nice job of following Carolina Prospects all year long. He attended Camp today and has a write up of his observations for those of us who could not attend.

We will be keeping up with the news of the day Tuesday and will make a new posting if needed. There are a ton of rumors out there and Alexander Nikishin is in many of them.
