Team news

England are sweating over the fitness of Reece James, who will miss this game with a hamstring issue. While not carrying injuries, the match fitness of Declan Rice is also unclear, as well as Bukayo Saka.

Panama are dealing with Adalberto Carrasquilla’s adductor injury, and a lack of match fitness for captain and all-time leading appearance-maker Anibal Godoy.

Predicted line-ups

England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Spence, Guehi, Konsa, O’Reilly; Mainoo, Anderson; Madueke, Bellingham, Rashford; Kane

Panama (5-4-1): Mosquera; Murillo, Cordoba, Ramos, Andrade, Blackman; Martinez, Barcenas, Harvey, Rodriguez; Fajardo

Recent form

England started well in the 4-2 win over Croatia but the 0-0 draw against Ghana has brought heavy criticism and Thomas Tuchel will be feeling some pressure.

Panama need a win to have any chance of going through in third place. They have so far lost both of their games.

What’s been said?

England boss Thomas Tuchel: “We will face another deep block in another kind of formation. We now see a back five. For many moments in the match we see a back six, we see a back seven.

“Normally we try to overload parts and areas in the match, try to overload and then accelerate quickly in this moment of overload.”

Panama manager Thomas Christiansen: “Now we have the last game against England, a good way to finish a World Cup if it goes our way. I think we have made changes from the last time they faced Panama eight years ago, but we need to show it tomorrow.

“It will be a tough one but I’m thinking that the team will be able to compete and do a good game.”
