Vikram Kumar Appointed as Chairman & Managing Director of MSETCL

Senior IAS officer Vikram Kumar has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL), Maharashtra’s state-owned power transmission utility.
A 2004 batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, Vikram Kumar brings with him over two decades of administrative experience across urban governance, infrastructure development, industrial growth and public administration. Prior to joining MSETCL, he served as Additional Metropolitan Commissioner–I at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, a position he held since March 2024.

An architect by qualification (B.Arch), Vikram Kumar has held several key positions in the Maharashtra Government. He served as Municipal Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation from July 2020 to March 2024 and earlier as Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. His previous assignments also include Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board, Joint Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, Collector of Chhtrapati Sambhajinagar and Sindhudurg districts, Municipal Commissioner of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Washim.
As the new CMD of MSETCL, Vikram Kumar is expected to steer the utility through a critical phase of energy transition, expansion of the state transmission network, integration of renewable energy projects, grid modernization and strengthening of Maharashtra’s power infrastructure.
MSETCL, one of India’s largest state transmission utilities, operates an extensive Extra High Voltage (EHV) network across Maharashtra and plays a pivotal role in ensuring reliable power transmission to support the state’s industrial, agricultural and economic growth.
Officials and employees of MSETCL have welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that Vikram Kumar’s vast experience in infrastructure planning, urban development and public administration will further strengthen the organisation’s growth trajectory and operational excellence.
