Ohtani, who has been battling a left knee injury and a blister, and the recent birth of his second child, has not had a smooth last couple of weeks.

However, the Dodgers are going to end up letting him feel a sense of normalcy — with Ohtani having a full two-way game on Wednesday.

Manager Dave Roberts has shared that the Dodgers will be managing Ohtani through the season regarding the knee issue, which left many wondering how many high-usage days the Japanese sensation would get.

At least on Wednesday vs. the Twins, he will be unleashed.

Wednesday has now become a blockbuster affair as starting pitcher Joe Ryan takes the mound for the Twins amid another strong season as a starter, while Ohtani leads off and pitches around 90 pitches.

Roberts will likely adopt a case-by-case approach in deciding how to handle Ohtani, but given the competitor Ohtani is, he will be pushing to play as much as possible.

After Tuesday’s win vs. the Twins, the Dodgers manager said he pulled Ohtani late in the game with a full pitching start coming.

The Dodgers are almost halfway through the season, and while Ohtani has held up well, all things considered, they will make all of the decisions needed to keep him upright come the postseason.

Shohei Ohtani’s stance on his usage

Ohtani continues to push for pitching accolades, namely the Cy Young Award that has eluded him. However, his individual pursuits won’t get in the way of any team success.

“In terms of workload and quantity, I’ll let the team decide and take charge of that,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton.

“My No. 1 goal is to make sure we’re all healthy leading up to the playoffs.

“We have a set schedule, and I’m just going to do what I’m supposed to do during that schedule. I’ll let the management handle the workload.”

For Dodgers fans, it is important to appreciate every time he does both hitting and pitching in the same game. He does something baseball may not see for a very long time after he is gone.
