MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri Inaugurates Passenger Amenities, Flags Off Kumta Extension of Kacheguda–Murdeshwar Express

In a significant step towards strengthening rail connectivity and enhancing passenger convenience, Konkan Railway inaugurated several passenger-centric infrastructure projects in Uttara Kannada district and flagged off the extension of Train No. 12790/12789 Kacheguda–Murdeshwar–Kacheguda Bi-weekly Express up to Kumta station.
The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Uttara Kannada, Shri Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, at Kumta station. The programme was attended by Hon’ble MLA, Kumta, Shri Dinakar K. Shetty, Chairman & Managing Director, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, Regional Railway Manager, Karwar, Ms. Asha Shetty, senior state authorities, Konkan Railway officials, public representatives, media personnel, railway staff and members of the public.

The passenger amenity projects inaugurated during the programme included the upgradation of Platform No. 2 at Kumta station from rail level to high level, upgradation of Platform No. 1 at Gokarna Road station from middle level to high level, construction of a new bio-toilet facility at Murdeshwar station, and extension of Platform No. 2 at Bhatkal station.
These infrastructure improvements have been undertaken to enhance passenger comfort, accessibility, hygiene and the overall travel experience. The upgraded facilities are expected to provide greater convenience to passengers while strengthening station infrastructure and service quality across the Konkan Railway network.
The extension of Train No. 12790/12789 Kacheguda–Murdeshwar–Kacheguda Bi-weekly Express up to Kumta is expected to significantly improve rail connectivity between Karnataka and Telangana. The extended service will provide direct connectivity from Kumta and nearby areas to key destinations, benefiting commuters, students, tourists, business travellers and local residents. The initiative is also expected to support regional economic activity and tourism.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri highlighted the importance of continuous infrastructure development and improved railway services for passengers. He appreciated the efforts of Konkan Railway in enhancing passenger amenities and strengthening connectivity in the Uttara Kannada region.
Shri Dinakar K. Shetty also lauded the passenger-focused initiatives undertaken by Konkan Railway and their contribution to regional development.
Chairman & Managing Director, KRCL, Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, reiterated Konkan Railway’s commitment to modernising passenger amenities, improving operational efficiency and strengthening connectivity across the Konkan region in line with the vision of Indian Railways and the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
