Durham cops plead for info on 2023 homicide; federal offender nabbed in Toronto

Durham Regional Police are appealing for information related to the 2023 homicide of a 17-year-old boy in Pickering.
On June 18, 2023, at about 9:40 p.m., cops responded to a shooting at a housing complex at 1580 Kingston Rd. Officers arrived at the scene, found a male victim who had been shot and along with paramedics performed life-saving measures.

The victim, later identified as Anthony Dixon, died at the scene.
Police believe that shots were fired from a vehicle that then fled from the scene and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or has other information including video footage to contact them at 1-888-579-1520, Ext. 2444. FEDERAL OFFENDER APPREHENDED
The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad said a federal offender who had been unlawfully at large since Jan. 15 has been caught in Toronto.
Latef Tag El Din was arrested on a nationwide warrant and is serving a two-year, 11-month and 10-day sentence for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing it has been altered or defaced, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, three counts of failure to comply with an order-at-large and failure to attend court.
HAMILTON COPS HUNTING ROBBERY SUSPECT
Police are investigating an armed robbery at a business near Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton.
On June 8 at about 1:15 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a robbery call at a business in the Mall Rd.-Upper Wentworth St. area.
Police said a suspect, who was carrying a large knife, entered the business and directed staff to turn over cash. They fled before police arrived.
The suspect is a male white who at the time was wearing a black face covering, black long-sleeve Carhart shirt, blue jean shorts and black shoes with white soles.

OSHAWA MAN ACCUSED OF USING FAKE CASH
Durham cops have issued a warrant for a male who attempted to use counterfeit money on purchases at the Oshawa Centre.
Police said that on March 20 at about 7:20 p.m., they responded to a fraud call at the Oshawa Centre at 419 King St. W. after a male attended various businesses and allegedly attempted to use fraudulent currency to buy items.
Mall security attempted to stop the suspect, who fled on foot.
Liam Dylan Bramley-Montgomery, 30, of Oshawa, is wanted for breach of probation and three counts each of fraud under $5,000 and uttering counterfeit currency.

TORONTO WOMAN ACCUSED OF BANK ACCOUNT FRAUD
A 41-year-old Toronto woman has been accused of a fraudulently attempt to open a bank account in Clarington.
On May 28 at about 2:40 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to a fraud call at a Scotiabank on Regional Hwy. 2 after a female allegedly attempted to open an account using a fake driver’s licence.
Officers arrived at scene and took the suspect into custody without incident. She allegedly attempted to open an account at a different bank earlier that morning as well, but was refused.
Alicia Dawn Miller is charged with possession of an identity document of another, uttering a forged document and fraud under $5,000.

TORONTO MAN SOUGHT FOR ASSAULT
A 37-year-old Toronto man is wanted by cops for an assault in the city’s east end.
Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call on Wednesday in the Dawes Rd.-Victoria Park Ave. area of East York after a man assaulted the victim and threatened to harm them.
They said the victim was not physically injured and that the victim knew the suspect.
Jonathan Laranjeira is wanted for assault and uttering threats.
He is 5-foot-7 and 250 pounds with short black hair and has a tattoo on the left side of neck.
