Charlotte Knights 5, Buffalo Bisons 1
The Knights (39-32) recovered from Tuesday’s loss to even up their series in Buffalo against the Bisons (34-37).
After a scoreless first inning, the Knights offense went to work by putting a crooked number on the scoreboard. Nolan Jones drew a leadoff walk, and Ryan Galanie added a single. That set the stage for Dustin Harris, who drove in the first run of the game with a single to right. Dru Baker popped out, but the next batter was Andy Weber, who launched a three-run homer to give the Knights a commanding lead.

In the sixth, with the score still 4-0, Galanie blasted his 10th homer to add an insurance run and extend the lead to five. As it turned out, five was more than enough for the Knights to come away with the victory.
Meanwhile, Tyler Schweitzer was the opener for Charlotte, and he did his part by pitching a scoreless first inning. Duncan Davitt covered the next three innings, and he did not allow any runs, either. The Bisons scored their only run in the sixth, when Sean Keys went deep against Zach Franklin. The bullpen took care of business down the stretch, as Garrett Schoenle and Javy Guerra combined to pitch 3 1/3 scoreless innings to put the game away. Catcher Kyle Teel went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout during the victory.

The Barons (24-40) came up short in the first game of their doubleheader in Pensacola against the Blue Wahoos (33-31).
It was not a day to remember for Gabe Davis, who started for the Barons. Davis, 22, allowed six runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. On the plus side, Davis struck out five and only walked one. However, Davis allowed three homers, and that turned out to be too much for the Barons to overcome.
At the plate, the Barons had a solid performance, scoring four runs in the seven-inning game. They picked up the first of those runs in the first, when Alec Briley went deep for a solo blast. In the fourth, Grant Magill picked up an RBI with a single. Finally, Jacob Burke and Jordan Sprinkle both added an RBI single, but the comeback fell short.

The Barons (25-40) rallied with their backs against the wall to win a thriller against Pensacola (33-32) and split the doubleheader.
The Barons got a decent performance from left-handed starter Jake Palisch. Palisch, 27, allowed two runs on three hits in four innings. Palisch issued three walks, but he did not allow those to derail his outing.
When Palisch left the game, Birmingham trailed by a score of 2-1. Birmingham scored its only early run on a double by Brenden Dixon that drove in Jorge Corona, who had singled.
Barons reliever Jonathan Clark ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing a single and issuing three consecutive walks to force in a run. However, Clark retired the next batter, and Phil Fox retired the next two without allowing any further damage. As a result, the deficit remained at two.
The score remained 3-1 until the top of the seventh, when the Barons clarified that they had plenty of gas in the tank. Dylan Campbell singled, and Colby Shelton and Jorge Corona drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Although Dixon struck out, T.J. McCants delivered a clutch double to drive in a pair and tie the game. On top of that, the Barons still had runners on second and third with one out.
Unfortunately, Samuel Zavala struck out, and it appeared that the Barons would not take advantage of the opportunity to take the lead. However, Colby Martin was intentionally walked, and Caleb Bonemer drew an unintentional walk to force in the go-ahead run. From there, Anthony DePino added some insurance with a two-run single, and just like that, the Barons led comfortably.

The Dash (37-28) pulled through in the clutch to even the series after a crazy eighth inning against Greensboro (41-24).
Dash starter Riley Eikhoff, 24, pitched a quality start with room to spare, going seven innings and only allowing two runs. Eikhoff also picked up seven strikeouts and did not issue any walks. However, the Dash offense was also struggling early on, and when Eikhoff left the game, the score was tied at two.
Winston-Salem scored its first run in the fourth, when Ely Brown hit an RBI single to drive in James Taussig, who had walked to open the inning. Then, in the sixth, the Dash started a rally with two outs and nobody on base. Ryan Galvan extended the inning with a walk, and Brown hit another single. That set the table for Eddie Park, who singled to tie the game.
The score remained 2-2 until the eighth, when the Grasshoppers hit two solo homers against reliever Jack Young to retake the lead. However, the Dash did not go away. In the bottom of the eighth, George Wolkow led off with a single, Kaleb Freeman doubled, and Galvan walked to load the bases. From there, Brown walked to force in a run. Although an infield grounder by Park allowed the Grasshoppers to get a force out at home, Bryce Eblin drove in the tying run with a single. With the bases still loaded with one out and the score tied again, Kyle Lodise reached on an error that allowed the go-ahead run to score. Dash reliever Pierce George pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the 5-4 lead.

The Cannon Ballers (33-32) offense was relentless against the Woodpeckers (31-33) during the latter portion of the game, so they won handily.
Kannapolis starter Gabe Tanner, 24, was on top of his game. Tanner pitched four shutout innings, only allowing one hit. However, the game was still scoreless when he left the mound, as Fayetteville struggled immensely to put runners on base.
In the sixth, the Cannon Ballers took the lead for good. Derek Cerda hit a two-run single. Cerda’s single drove in Jaden Fauske, who had walked, and Matthew Boughton, who had singled. Later in the inning, Adrian Gil and Efren Teran both drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in a run. Just like that, it was 4-0, and this game did not have drama down the stretch.
In the eighth, Ersami Rodriguez added a pair of insurance runs with a two-run homer. Later in the eighth, Boughton added an RBI double, and in the ninth, Gil went deep to wrap up the scoring.
Meanwhile, the Woodpeckers only collected one run on two hits. As a result, the Cannon Ballers cruised to a relatively easy victory.
