Super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco will return to the ring on Saturday, July 18, to face Immanuwel Aleem in a DAZN-streamed main event from Carson, Calif.

The fight comes with the announcement that Pacheco has signed a new deal to stay with Matchroom Boxing.

On paper, the 25-year-old Pacheco (25-0, 18 KO) is taking a bit of a step back in competition with this fight, coming off of a win over Kevin Sadjo last December, where Pacheco was dropped in the eighth round but did deserve the unanimous decision victory.

But the paper may be lying a little. Aleem (22-4-3, 14 KO) can fight, which could make this something of a high-risk, low-reward outing. He was beaten wide on the cards by Lester Martinez in March, which is not a bad loss because Martinez is a very good fighter, and Aleem he’s got a history of getting the short end on PBC cards in particular — a draw with Matt Korobov in 2019, a close loss to Ronald Ellis that same year, another against Amilcar Vidal Jr in 2021.

Of course, those fights were quite a long time ago. Now 32, this could be Aleem’s last chance to really put himself in the world-level mix.
