Third man charged with murder in 2025 slaying of Toronto senior Jolan Kun

A third man has been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of a Toronto senior whose body was found late last year in her York apartment.

The arrest, which was made on Monday by Toronto Police, came six months after officers responded to a call on Dec. 8 at about 8:20 a.m. in the city’s St. Clair Ave. W. and Rushton Rd. area.

Jolan Kun, 79, was found dead inside an apartment unit in the area, with her death being deemed a homicide after a post-mortem examination.

Police had arrested two 38-year-old Toronto men in January and charged them with first-degree murder before announcing on Thursday that a 39-year-old Peterborough man had been arrested and charged as well.

Andrew Christopher Matthews, also known as Andrew Christopher Chesson, was charged with first-degree murder.

The two other men charged were Ashton Drysdale and Kaream Hines.

Drysdale also faces 20 other charges including possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order and 10 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The Correctional Service of Canada has since launched an investigation into his statutory release after Drysdale had been wanted since March 2025 for a parole violation.

The OPP said at the time that Drysdale received a statutory release after serving two-thirds of an eight-year and eight-month sentence for robbery with violence, a drug charge and four firearm-related offences.

“Realizing the serious and tragic charges that have been laid, it is important that it be thoroughly reviewed to fully examine the circumstances around what happened,” the CSC said in its statement at the time.

“To this end, CSC has launched an investigation and will not hesitate to implement any measures, as determined necessary, to further enhance public safety.”

It was not immediately clear if that examination was complete.
