MM 6.8: Maryland football adds defensive reinforcements to 2027 recruiting class
· Yahoo Sports
With programs across the country finalizing rosters ahead of the 2026 season, Maryland football’s attention has remained focused on the future. The Terps landed six class of 2027 commitments across a four-day stretch spanning late May and early June.
While Maryland’s initial crop of incoming talent featured seven offensive additions, a young defense that was ravaged by injuries in 2025 received some potential depth pieces. Three-star safety Charles Roberts and linebacker Shelvy Clark committed over the weekend.

Roberts was slated to play under Bill Belichick at North Carolina prior to his visit in College Park. But the IMG Academy product quickly flipped his commitment during the tour, giving Michael Locksley a huge boost to his 2027 recruiting cycle. Roberts becomes the Terps’ best addition thus far.

Clark is Maryland’s second unranked addition to join the nation’s 50th-best recruiting class. Still, the Tennessee native chose the Terps over fellow finalist Colorado. Clark also received offers from Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss and Florida State.

With 11 commitments to its 2027 freshman class, Maryland is far from done. The Terps will look to capitalize on their recent momentum and land some highly-touted prospects over the coming weeks.
