In 2025, Haeseler qualified to the state meet in the discus and finished in 17th place.

The senior moved up to 11th in Division III competition Saturday, however, didn't qualify for the finals as a large group of competitors moved into the mid-to-upper 120s.

Haeseler ended with a best throw of 113'05", missing the finals by two spots.

Perry sophomore Emily Mechenbier outdistanced the field to win the discus with a 154'10" effort. She also captured first in the shot put at 48"00.75".

Annah Haeseler, her coach and mother, said it was a good finish to her senior season.

"Throwing is technical, you either have it [on a specific day] or you don't," coach Haeseler said.

She said Ella's personal best was 123'0", which would have made the finals.

Ella said she didn't come down to the tournament with specific expectations, other than to do her best.

While the senior's season concluded Saturday, a new experience is still on the horizon.

Haeseler is planning to continue her academic and athletic career as a thrower for Cleveland State University. She said she is very excited to continue her athletic career and study business this coming fall.

Haeseler said she works at a winery, and will work on her technique at her home discus circle at her house.

She is also hoping to work out at area track facilities, as well.

Ella said she is also waiting to see if she gets some workout ideas from the CSU track program.

"I'm going to see if my coach has a packet," she said.

CSU works out at the Tri-C track just down the street from the school's campus just east of downtown Cleveland. More of the details should come soon as she heads to orientation July 11,

Haeseler is part of the long discus tradition which goes all the way back to the early 1900s when Cloyce Hammond won the state championship.

It continued through Ella's grandfather, Mark Debevc, who set the Ashtabula County discus record in the 1967 at 192'1", a record that still holds today.

The Eagles were supported by a lot of fans which included Geneva High School administrators, coaches and family.
