Justin Gaethje is still his father’s boy.

Gaethje is widely expected to get creamed in his UFC White House main event versus Ilia Topuria, who is quite possibly the best fighter on the roster right now. Gaethje’s father isn’t worried, however, because “The Highlight” has handled lots of “little short guy” opponents in the past like Michael Chandler and Rafael Fiziev.

Mr. Gaethje’s tone in the video is more supportive of his son than insulting to Topuria, but “El Matador” didn’t appreciate his words all the same. Less than 12 hours after the video gained traction online, Topuria was on social media ready to teach a lesson about humility.

“Fathers hope. Champions know,” Topuria replied to the video clip on X. “I’ve heard this story before: bigger men, stronger men, better men. Men who said I was just a small guy who was about to get a lesson in humility. They all learned the truth the same way. Your son already knows who I am. On June 14th, you will too. 18-0 PAPA”

It’s been just shy of a year since Topuria captured his current crown by smoking Charles Oliveira inside a round. With his family issues settled, the 29-year-old knockout artist can hopefully focus fully on defending his title actively. Gaethje, meanwhile, beat up Paddy Pimblett back in January to earn his current interim title, which he hopes to finally convert to undisputed gold after multiple previous attempts.

Whether or not size is a factor? We’ll find out June 14.
