The Philadelphia Phillies are likely to be buyers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, which is a great sign after their 9-19 start this season.

While they might be gearing up to acquire some help at the trade deadline, what exactly they're going to go after is still a little bit uncertain.
However, USA Today's MLB insider Bob Nightengale revealed that the Phillies seemingly already have their sights set on a certain type of player: a right-handed hitter.
Phillies looking for right-handed hitters at trade deadline
"The Phillies right-handed hitters are a mess, hitting a major-league low .217 with a .315 on-base percentage and .585 OPS," Nightengale writes. "They will be on the lookout for a right-handed hitter at the trade deadline..."
This should not come as a surprise to any Phillies fans. The team's issues from the right side of the plate have been very apparent this season.
Alec Bohm was off to a terrible start to his 2026 campaign, and while he's turned it around a little bit, he's hitting .208 with a .602 OPS.

Trea Turner has been a massive disappointment this season with a .222 average and .624 OPS. For a player making as much as he is, he needs to be a lot better.
J.T. Realmuto has a .590 OPS, and Edmundo Sosa's .601 OPS isn't very good either. But the biggest issue for the Phillies is clearly Adolis Garcia, who has a .194 batting average and a .579 OPS.
Finding another right-handed hitter, ideally an outfielder, is something that the Phillies are going to be looking for at the deadline, according to Nightengale.
This isn't a surprise at all, but hopefully, this time, the Phillies can acquire a righty slugger who can actually be a difference maker in the lineup.
