Viktor Hovland Makes Surprise Decision on Memorial Tournament

· Yahoo Sports

The 2026 golf season has been anything but pleasant for Viktor Hovland, who is still looking for his first win since March 2025.

Hovland has only missed the cut twice this season – at the Valspar Championship and the PGA Championship earlier this month – while playing in 11 tournaments thus far. However, he hasn’t been in contention in many tournaments either, having finish inside the top 20 just four times with one top-10.

It was curious, then, to see him withdraw from a tournament he’s had success at in the past when he opted against playing in the Memorial Tournament next weekend.

Hovland withdrew from the tournament for an undisclosed reason and hasn’t played since missing the cut at the PGA Championship two weeks ago, opting against playing in this weekend’s Charles Schwab Challenge as well.

The Norwegian has played in the Memorial Tournament six times and made the cut in all six attempts while winning the event in 2023 by defeating Denny McCarthy in a playoff. Following his win, Hovland finished t-15 in 2024 and t-25 in 2025 to continue his strong form in the tournament.

A seven-time winner on the PGA Tour, only one of Hovland’s wins have come in the last three seasons on tour.
