Chad Tracy has been the Boston Red Sox’s interim manager for over a month, and throughout that time, he’s relied more on his dad.
Tracy’s dad, Jim, is a former MLB manager, so although he’s gotten advice throughout his career as a manager, the two have talked more since becoming the interim manager of Boston.
“I talk to him all the time,” Tracy said to MLB.com. “We always talk, but we're talking a lot more now, just because we can go through games and talk.
“He always watches, him and my mom are watching every single game. He managed in big and small markets, he managed as an interim. So, every single thing I'm encountering, he has. He's right there for me with an answer, ready to answer the phone, even if it's at 11:30 at night.”
Tracy, meanwhile, believes watching his dad as an MLB manager helped prepare him to be a big league manager.
“Having watched my dad go through it for years, I had a pretty good sense of what that is,” Tracy said. “I don't want to say you're fully prepped, but more prepared for it than maybe others, just because I've seen it firsthand.”
Tracy is 13-16 since being promoted to interim manager for the Red Sox. Yet, following Friday’s loss, Boston is now 23-33.
