At the moment, the competition for the 2026 starting QB gig is between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

One beat reporter, though, Zac Jackson of The Athletic, has a different idea.

Jackson has watched OTAs so far and come to the conclusion that the Browns should consider Brendan Sorsby.

This is specifically what Jackson posted on X with that take:

Sorsby has played his college football at the University of Cincinnati, but he transferred this offseason to Texas Tech.

He may never suit up for the Red Raiders, though, due to an investigation into gambling which also had Sorsby get a month's worth of treatment.

Sorsby may choose to enter the NFL supplemental draft, which is activated in situations like this, when something happens to compel a player to turn pro after a given year's standard draft.

The supplemental draft essentially has teams bid on players by putting up a future draft pick as the price. If they win the player, they lose that future pick.

Other teams would likely consider Sorsby, too, but the Browns remain a team with an ongoing need at quarterback until proven otherwise.

Maybe Cleveland wouldn't want to touch the risk that comes with Sorsby. But when you're looking for a solution at the most important position in sports, maybe it's a risk the Browns will decide to take.
