World Cup star picks Tottenham despite late move from Liverpool

It appears a late move from Liverpool wasn't enough to sway one star from Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool are underway in the transfer market as they've contacted a few clubs in recent days. A move for Colombia wonderkid Samuel Martinez is reportedly close, for one.

But it appears that one deal they won't complete for for Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi. The Argentine, who is in his country's preliminary World Cup squad, will leave the Cherries this summer with the end of his contract.

He's been linked with a few clubs as a result, including Liverpool. We've had him down as a very smart signing, in fact.

Tottenham Hotspur lead this one, though. Now journalist Matteo Moretto reports that Senesi has indeed chosen Spurs as his next club, despite Liverpool showing genuine interest in recent weeks.

The Reds will have to look elsewhere, then. We imagine this one came down to a mix of wages and playing time, with Liverpool not being able to guarantee a starting XI spot next season.

Though, that could change. Ibrahima Konate will leave the club as things stand and if he does, they'll need to find a new senior option to partner Virgil van Dijk.

We do expect Senesi to be off the table by then, however.

Marcos Senesi: Situation Summary

Bournemouth Campaign and Stats

As of 25 May 2026, Marcos Senesi has officially concluded his four-year tenure with AFC Bournemouth. The 29-year-old Argentine centre-back has been a foundational pillar at the back during the club's historic, European-qualifying campaign. He started and played the full 90 minutes in yesterday’s final Premier League fixture, a 1–1 draw away at Nottingham Forest. Senesi departs having made 124 appearances for the Cherries since his arrival from Feyenoord in 2022.

Confirmed Summer Exit

Bournemouth officially announced on 15 May that Senesi will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires this June. The club held a special celebration to honour his contributions following their final home match against Manchester City earlier this month.

Tottenham Transfer Agreement

Following Bournemouth's announcement, a fierce transfer battle emerged involving Juventus and Chelsea. However, breaking reports from 25 May reveal that Tottenham Hotspur have won the race for his signature. Newly survival-secured manager Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to bring the left-footed defender to North London on a free transfer.
