Cleveland Browns giving another quarterback on roster an opportunity
· Yahoo Sports
The NFL offseason has entered the workout phase as teams prepare for summer training camps. Before long, the preseason will arrive for both teams and fans. The Cleveland Browns have stayed busy this offseason with a new head coach and revamped coaching staff, but the franchise’s biggest question remains at quarterback.
The Browns appear headed for a quarterback competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders for the QB1 role. Head coach Todd Monken has praised Sanders’ work ethic while reportedly remaining high on Watson. Now, Monken is also taking a closer look at another quarterback on the roster.

Reports indicate Monken moved Dillon Gabriel into the second spot on the depth chart. Gabriel’s place on the team has remained a major question mark, but he now appears to have an opportunity to prove himself. That opportunity gives him a chance to showcase his abilities under the new coaching staff.

That possibility raises questions about Taylen Green’s role in the offense. Some have speculated that Green could fill a role similar to the one Taysom Hill plays.
Green is an extremely athletic quarterback with the physical traits NFL teams covet. However, his inconsistent accuracy and erratic play make him a long-term project at the professional level. Gabriel receiving an opportunity ahead of both Green and Sanders only deepens the mystery surrounding Monken’s plans for 2026.

The Browns have not fielded a consistently reliable offense since the 2020 season. Since then, the team has experienced constant ups and downs at quarterback. Cleveland’s struggles at the position are well-documented, as the franchise leads the NFL in different starting quarterbacks since 1999.

Gabriel, meanwhile, has delivered largely average play throughout his career. So who ultimately wins the starting job?
Monken still has minicamp, training camp, and the preseason to evaluate his options before making a final decision. Right now, there may not be much excitement surrounding the position. Still, one of these four quarterbacks could emerge, build momentum, and separate himself from the pack as the regular season approaches.
