There's been a lot of talk about the New York Mets improving their bullpen, but that likely won't come from external options. Right now, the Mets just simply aren't in a position to go out and make a move for a reliever, let alone a closer.

The last thing this team wants to do is spend more assets when they aren't winning games at the level that's needed.

Some have started to think that because of Sean Manaea's struggles in the rotation, he could be a potential bullpen option. Unfortunately, the latest suggests it isn't going to happen, and his previous stint as a bullpen option makes that reality a lot more likely.

“It’s hard to see the Mets going with Manaea. As a reliever, he has not pitched in many meaningful moments. In nine appearances, he has a 6.56 ERA. Senga, on the injured list since April 28, is throwing a live bullpen session Sunday in Florida, so he is not in play,” Will Sammon of The Athletic wrote.

Considering Manaea isn't really getting outs at a high level in the starting rotation, bringing him in for an inning or two probably isn't the best idea.

On the season, he owns a 6.26 ERA and has struck out just 29 hitters. He posted a 5.64 ERA a year ago, showing that he has more questions than answers at the moment.
